“The Engravers’ Park”

Degree of completion: completed

Project carried out by the Institutional Coordinating Group of UNESCO Site n. 94, thanks to the operative contribution of Comunità Montana and Distretto Culturale di Valle Camonica, with the financial contribution of Arcus Spa. It consists of an articolate series of interventions on the parks’ structures and equipment, supported by actions for enhancing and promoting them.

“Interventions to equip the paths for the cultural fruition of the Carpene archaeological area” in the Sellero municipality.
The intervention has provided for the realization of tracings, georeference, conservation of the engraved rocks with the setting out of structures for visitors, such as walkways, paths and information signposts at the Carpene archaeological area. This area of the Sellero municipality is particularly relevant from the archaeological standpoint for the presence of numerous signs of “Camunian Rose” and for the proximity of significant mineral zones with structures that bear witness to the connection between human presence and exploitation of local resources. The intervention was completed with the publication of a guide to enjoy the site.

“Campanine area: tour organization for the enjoyment of the archaeological-environmental heritage and realization of information panels” in the Rock Engravings Regional Reserve of Ceto, Cimbergo and Paspardo.
This intervention has brought about the realization of previous archaeological researches consisting of prospects and e stratigraphic inspections, cleaning of the area, restoration of the rocks, improvements in the use of a visiting tour of the Park. The intervention was completed by the positioning of a new informative system of signs near the rocks. The intervention in the Campanine area has granted the improved use of the paths and it has made for a smoother and better equipped visit to the rock art property.

“Bicyclist and pedestrian link between Via Alabarde and the Corni Freschi Archaeological Site” in the municipality of Darfo Boario Terme.
The intervention consists of a bicyclist and pedestrian pathway to be used to improve accessibility to the "Corni Freschi" archaeological site. The presence of this new route connects the nearby Conference Centre of Boario Terme, the educational playground Park called Archeopark and the archaeological site of the Corni Freschi boulder. This work has involved the making of a new path of about 300 m going along a tract of private land (where a friendly agreement has been obtained), a second tract parallel to the Boario exit ramp of State Road 42 (under the district’s jurisdiction) and at last a tract in the Gattaro area where it merges into the present country road. The execution of the work has required vegetation and earth removal, a new road pavement and security systems for the protection of impaired people and for all visitors of this new path and archaeological site.

Implementation of parking lots to serve the Parks/Museum in the municipality of Capo di Ponte.
The project has brought about the creation of new parking areas and the adaptation of existing ones to serve the archaeological Parks/Museum in the municipality of Capo di Ponte (Naquane, Sante Church, Seradina-Bedolina and near the National Museum of Prehistory of Camonica Valley). The intervention has generated a network of parking spaces for cars and busses spread over the Capo di Ponte territory to allow a better enjoyment of the parks located around and of the National Museum in the making.

Adaptation of external and internal signs to the rock art parks by means of a plan of  visual identity.
The project has involved the adaptation of internal and external signs to the parks, so as to provide an easy-to-read specific, organic, coherent plan of the visual identity of the UNESCO site. The project was shared in a service conference by Anas, the Brescia District and the Municipalities interested in the presence of rock art parks that make up the UNESCO site. They defined a logos and a type of modular support in corten steel. They also defined a plan of signpost distribution, as well as a plan for the accessibility to the parks, starting at the exits of the main road network: the state, district and municipal roads. In this way the territory gets marked by a particular, recognizable route. The project has allowed the outset of a pilot scheme, a reorganization of the road signs of the entire territory of Camonica Valley, in particular as a promotional intervention for the territory’s cultural and environmental resources.
